The Ultimate Wedding Florals Guide

When it comes to wedding florals, it’s okay not to know what a flat lay runner or hand-tied garland is. Your wedding flowers will ultimately set the tone for your wedding, whether it be minimalistic, modern, opulent, or dramatic. Having a wedding florist, like our team at Arctic Fox Weddings, take the reigns on floral design will help you bring your vision to life without the stress of learning the crazy world of a florist.

Choosing wedding flowers that fit your desired style isn’t always easy — especially if you don’t know a poppy from a petunia. That’s why we have put together the ultimate guide with everything you need to know, from a timeline to flowers in season; we have you covered.

Time Line

9 – 11 months before your wedding: Book a free chat with our creative director, Katie, to discuss your options. Be sure you have a good idea of the types of flowers you like, what your wedding theme will be, and understand your budget.

6 – 8 months before your wedding: This is the time to bring out the trusty ole Pinterest board to figure what flowers you like and the arrangements you are thinking of. Now is the time to start concreting the list of arrangements you would like featured in your wedding.

4 – 5 months before your wedding: Finalise your wedding flowers, and settle on the budget. Make sure you haven’t missed anything; however, we will be here to contact if things change. We will check in a few weeks before the wedding to confirm everything before starting our floristry magic.

2 weeks before your wedding: This is where your vision comes to life, as we begin the process from flower arrival to production and preparation, conception and arrangement, seeing your bouquet come together before your eyes.

Floristry Terms

Don’t know the difference between a posy or a bouquet? No problem. We’re here to explain the most common types of floral arrangements and make it easy for you.

Seasons

As your florist, we will provide information on which flowers are in season around your wedding date. Many flowers can be imported depending on where you live, so even if something is not available locally, you might be able to get them imported, albeit for a higher price. Below, we have compiled a list of popular wedding flowers available by season:

Letter from your Florist

Like everything else in the world, the price of flowers has skyrocketed, meaning every rose now has a thorny price tag. The short answer for this is increased import prices and supply chain issues meaning up to a 40% increase in price for some flower varieties.
