He didn’t! We decided together! Being married and having our own family was so assumed and matter-of-fact that it suddenly felt wrong to still be ‘dating’. We decided to get married on a road trip down to Sydney where we stopped at small towns over a few days and would ride our bikes to explore the town. It was the happiest little holiday!
We didn’t have the first dance because #covid but I walked down the aisle to Feels like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk.
Don’t plan a longer engagement unless you have to! We had to change plans from the big, one-week, international celebration to a 5-person elopement. I called Katie from Arctic Fox on Wednesday afternoon once I accidentally found the perfect location and we married on Friday. It was three weeks before the original wedding date and a week after we canceled our big wedding… and it was the best! There was zero stress, no pre-conceived plans of how everything should run or look, and, somehow, everything was perfect! In fact, more perfect than I think it would have been if we had a big wedding and the 1000 spreadsheets that went with it!

Nick had held off from asking the question for 10 years, and I was starting to think it wouldn’t happen. For our 10 year anniversary Nick organised a beautiful surprise weekend away at the Shangri-la in Sydney and booked their penthouse suite, with dinner at their restaurant.
